Self Love & Alone Time

We all preach it, “self love”–“love yourself or no one else will”, “self-love is the most important kind of love”–you get the idea. The only problem is, where do we start? If you’re one of those people who truly believes you want to love yourself but are having a hard time figuring out how, then I’m with you. I can fake it a million times, but I really want to feel it. Today I learned something new, in regards to my self love journey, that being alone, I mean completely by yourself, can improve how you feel about yourself. It gives your soul a chance to awaken and your mind a chance to rest, with no worries of what others are doing. It’s time to focus on you.

Going out alone is a big step in my life because I, like many others, am constantly worried of what others are thinking about me (“why is she alone?” “what is she doing here?” “she doesn’t have friends?”), or worried about the worst possible thing that could ever happen in the universe (example; an alien kidnaps me and forces me to live on their planet with no access to ice  cream or cookies for the rest of my life??? crazy, right?). Pushing those feelings aside, today I put my confident pants on and I went into the city by myself, I drove myself, I did some shopping (probably too much shopping) by myself, and I got a bite to eat, and ate it in the cafe, by myself. You know what? It felt good, refreshing almost. It’s reassuring that I can be my own company and still feel confident and comfortable in my surroundings and body. Constantly  having to be with others to go out somewhere made me feel like I always needed someone else around to be who I really am. In reality, being alone made me realize I can always be who I am, my soul is who I am, not who I am around.

Just a friendly little reminder, that next time you feel obliged to call a friend because you’re worried about going out alone, it can be just as exhilarating going by yourself (plus no one is around to judge how loud you sing Hold Up by Beyonce on the way home). Learning how to enjoy your own company will put you one step further on your search to love yourself.

Happy Wednesday, Everyone!

*Not that I don’t love my friends and family, I always love to spend time with them and go out, because I do I love them all* 🙂
